Apparently Oregon is considering a law that has been in Idaho for 27 years. Can't see any reason why Michigan shouldn't as well:

Kick Ass! It's about time. I saw this ad last night watching hockey (I believe it was the Pitt vs. Philly game even). What a great ad campaign. Lord knows we need to fight disinformation with some optimistic hope.

Hoophouse Tour and Picnic with "Omnivore's Dilemma" Book Club Discussion

The local professional chapter of Net Impact asked if they could hold their book club discussion for this month at Brines Farm - you may have heard of the book or read it, Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan. So we've sort of turned it into an event: tour, volunteering and potluck lunch/book discussion. Feel free to stop by for the tour and/our book discussion if you have read the book but please RSVP so I have an idea of numbers. More details below.

Net Impact Book Club: Summer Edition - Omnivores Dilemma
Including Brines Farm tour, volunteering, and picnic potluck

SCHEDULE:
10:00am-10:30am Brines Farm Hoophouse Tour
10:30am-12:30pm Volunteering (with quick re-tour at end for discussion-only arrivals)
12:30pm-2:00pm Lunch and Book Discussion of Omnivores Dilemma by Michael Pollan

DIRECTIONS:
Head about 5 miles west of US 23 exit 49 on N. Territorial Rd. Head about 1 mile north on Donovan Rd to 8218 Donovan Rd, Dexter, MI 48130. Our driveway is in the middle of the woods at the bottom of the second, consecutive hill. Coming over the hill is kind of blind so please drive carefully.

PARKING:
Parking is very tight up by the house but you are welcome to do so but you may be parked in by others. If that is a concern, I recommend parking beyond our mailbox (to the north) on the right side of Donovan Rd. (off the road as much as possible). Then walk up driveway and down easement to field and hoophouse, about 1000 feet. There will be signs.

WHAT TO BRING:
Dish to pass with serving spoon, dish/cutlery/drink for yourself and ideas about the book Omnivore's Dilemma of course. If you will be volunteering: appropriate work clothing (that will get dirty), a hat, water, work gloves, natural-ingredient bug repellent.

ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER NOTES:
With the recent rain, mosquitoes have begun to appear on the farm and in the hoophouse. They are not as bad outside the hoophouse, during the middle of the day, and if it is sunny out, but you are likely to encounter some. Please note that DEET or chemical based repellents are not allowed inside the hoophouse. Natural-ingredient (e.g. citronella, soaps, natural remedy, etc.) based repellents are allowed. I recommend loose fitting clothes like windbreakers, particularly if it turns out cloudy anyway as currently forecast. Bring clothing layers though as temperatures inside the hoophouse can run anywhere from the same as outside to 20 degrees warmer.
